Family Staycation at Hotel Jen Manila

Hotel Review of Subic Grand Seas Resort, Olangapo City

Hotel Name: Subic  Grand Seas Resort Hotel
Location: 83 National Highway, Barrio Barretto, Olongapo City

Booking Details:
After our family's overnight stay at a private beach in San Narciso Zambales, we decided to extend our vacation and look for other place to spend the night.  We originally planned to stay at Crystal Beach Resort but knowing that it was only ten minutes walk away from the private beach where we stayed, my husband opted to drive back to Subic.  He reasoned that we will only get the same waves and sand as what we had the previous day ๐Ÿ˜Š  We searched for a place to stay in Subic using our booking app while having our late lunch at Shakey's.  As the day progressed, I found it hard to book the hotel I had in mind on that same day using Agoda as mostly were fully-booked.  I tried using another booking app Travelbook.ph.   Felt lucky that I was able to get a booking at Subic Grand Seas Resort for an overnight stay for two rooms with free buffet breakfast.

Check-in and Stay:
We arrived at the Subic Grand Seas Resort at 2:30 PM. However, we had some problems when we tried to check in as the hotel staff informed us that there were no available rooms anymore.  I explained to her that it was booked through travelbook.ph and everything was already paid.   The hotel staff was kind enough to arrange everything with travelbook for us to be accommodated at  Subic Grand Seas Resort.  Instead of two double rooms, we were just given a family room with two double beds.  Anyway, we just grabbed it than to cancel the booking and go through the tedious and long refund process.  Also, searching for another place to stay is quite a hassle considering that it was already late in the afternoon and we had been on the road for many hours already.  We had to wait a little longer as the room assigned to us was still being cleaned due to late checkout of the previous guests.  At around 3:30 PM, everything was set and we were assisted by hotel staff to our assigned room.

I was just glad that it was a very spacious room with two double-sized beds.  We had LCD television with cable channel, private in-room safe, personal fridge and wi-fi connection. However, there was no complimentary coffee/tea and they did not provide electric pot like in other resort hotels we visited. I guess they wanted their guests to try their onsite restaurant/cafe which I found to be as pricey as those in five-star hotels. ๐Ÿ˜ The bathroom had toiletries like soap, shampoo and conditioner but the bathroom looked a little less clean because of mold buildup especially on the sliding glass door.  The hot water is also not working properly as the water from the shower was still a bit cold.  They also forgot to provide us new set of towels so i had to call the housekeeping for it.  But they promptly delivered what we requested.

The beach seems to be not safe for swimming though, so we just let the kids dip in the pool from 6-8 PM.  The whole resort needed a total makeover as it looked worn-out from its lawns, to the pool and the beach area.  Even our key door suggested so that it broke down while I tried to open it.

The next day, we woke up early to have an early breakfast which was included in our accommodation.  We were so early that we had to wait until the restaurant opening at 7AM.  We decided to stroll around the beach while waiting for breakfast to be served.  And to our surprise, it was a managed buffet with very limited food choices. Too limited that we had to choose only one viand from the menu. ☝ And another thing, we had to pay for two additional breakfast as we were told that the family room only provides complimentary breakfast for two. Even if I originally booked two double rooms with free breakfast for the four of us, I had to pay for two extra person charge ๐Ÿ˜’.  Geez,  I did not let that spoil my morning anyway.  All I wanted was to savor the moment and have breakfast by the beach with my family.

We just lounge in bed the rest of the morning, prepared ourselves for a long road travel back home and checked out before 11AM.

Check Out:
During checkout, we paid for the additional breakfast and surrendered the key to the front desk staff.  They gave us call card and discount vouchers just in case we needed a place to stay in Subic in another occasion.   By the way, while driving back home, the representative from Travelbook called us to offer apologies for what happened and gather feedback regarding our experience with their services.  I told everything about what happened and suggested to improve their services so it will never happen to others.
