Commuters' Guide to New MRT/LRT 2015 Fares

Today is the first work-week and class resumption for 2015.  Even if mommies like us hate increases in transportation fare as these will surely hurt our budget, all we could do is to make adjustment in our finances.
We are greeted with the MRT and LRT fare hike that started since yesterday.  If you or anyone in your family uses the LRT or MRT to/from work or school, here are the fare matrices to guide you in budgeting you or your spouse/kids' allowance.  This fare guide is also valuable when you plan to take the train ride on your travel to your preferred destination in the Greater Manila Area.

DOTC’s Department Order No. 2014-014 was issued last December 2014 that served as guide for the uniform distance-based fare scheme for all 3 train lines (P11 base fare + P1 per kilometer). The new maximum fare for all train lines are as follows:

LRT1 (Monumento to Baclaran): P30 for single journey tickets and P29 for stored value tickets, up from P20

LRT 1 FARE MATRIX

LRT2 (Recto to Santolan): P25 for single journey tickets and P24 for stored value tickets, up from P15

LRT 2 FARE MATRIX

MRT (North Avenue to Taft Avenue): P28 for single journey and stored value tickets, up from P15

MRT FARE MATRIX

If you are a regular LRT commuter, you can save some amount and precious time by buying stored value card than the single journey card because it has LastRide Bonus wherein ticket is still valid for one more ride even if the remaining balance is less than the minimum fare and it is valid for six (6) months from date of first use.

There you go, do not forget to adjust your transportation budget accordingly especially your spouse and kids' allowance to avoid arguments.  For our travel planners, we hope this guide will help you in budgeting your travel expenses should you wish to take the MRT/LRT.
