Booking Details:
The family needed some sandy beach fix to enjoy summer time as we did
not enjoy much the pool at city hotels the last time. I searched for
beach destination just some hours away from Manila and I was directed to either
Batangas or Zambales. As I find Batangas beaches as less kid-friendly due
to rocks, coral reef and deep slopes formation which is more fitting for
adults' snorkeling and diving, I opted for Zambales. I find this place to
have more wide sandy beaches perfect for swimming or surfing. There are
sandy beaches also in Batangas especially in Laiya but we were a little bit
intrigued to try Baloy Beach in Barrio Barretto and Pundaquit in
Zambales. To avoid the crowd, I did not get hotel at Baloy Beach but
inside SBMA which is only thirty minutes away from Barrio Barretto. Lucky
to get Grand Hoyah Hotel also thru Agoda booking app with a 65% promo
discount.
Travel Time:
We had an almost four-hour drive from Manila to Subic. We took the
North Luzon Expressway /Mabalacat Interchange then headed to Subic-Clark-Tarlac
Expressway (SCTEX) Interchange Road, Mabalacat then to Subic-Tipo
Expressway. As it was our first-time to drive to Subic, we were a little
confused of the traffic regulations thus we were flagged down by an
enforcer. After asking some details about us and informing us of our
minor violation, we were given a quick seminar on the traffic rules and we were
provided with a brochure containing the do's and don'ts in Subic. We were
impressed on how they professionally handled first-time tourists like us.
And we were thankful that they were considerate enough not to spoil our
family's experience of Subic π.
Check-in and Stay:
We arrived at the Grand Hoyah Hotel a little early at 11:30 AM. Although
the regular check-in time is at 2PM, It was surprising that the staff
accommodated us instantly and asked for our booking details. The hospitality
that the hotel staff accorded us was really exceptional. Maybe they understood
that we came all the way from Manila and endured that long drive just to get
there. π They asked if we already had our lunch
and provided details of available restaurants and malls nearby. We opted
to have our lunch at a nearby mall since we also wanted to tour around while
they were still preparing the room for us. They asked for our contact
details so they could readily inform us if the rooms were all
ready.
We were still having our lunch when a hotel staff called to inform us
that we can check-in. We decided to go back to the hotel to take some rest
before heading to Baloy Beach at around 4PM. The hotel staff
assisted us with our luggage. Since this hotel is only up to fourth
floors, they only have stairs and quaint elevator that fits only three
people. Another good thing about this hotel was that they did not collect
any incidental deposit.
The rooms that we had really speak of the hotel's name because of its
grand design/interior and spacious floor area. It has a king-sized
bed, LCD television with cable channel, private in-room safe, telephone,
personal refrigerator and complimentary coffee/tea and water. The bathroom has
toiletries like soap, shampoo and conditioner. The room is also adorned
with artworks and black-out curtains. The bed and pillows were comfortable and
the bed covers and blanket were clean.
The next day, we had a very early breakfast which was included in our
accommodation. We really wanted to go to Pundaquit in San Narciso
Zambales which is an hour drive from this hotel thus we checked out early at
9AM.
Check Out:
I surrendered the key cards to the front desk staff then she instructed
housekeeping staff to check our rooms. We were given clearance to leave
in as little as five minutes. π
