The Story Behind the USS Pictures Part 1

Two days before our intended visit to Universal Studios in Singapore, we purchased our ticket through their online reservation system over the internet. We made an online purchase to be sure that we will get our entrance ticket based on our planned itinerary. We scheduled our visit to USS on a Sunday as we had a very tight schedule with only less than a week of family holiday to spend. We just noticed that the ticket price for the weekend was a bit higher than the weekday price but since we all wanted to have my kids’ aunt to accompany us and not let her excuse herself from work on a weekday thus we took a Sunday ticket. We went home almost twelve midnight on Saturday and we had a bit of a problem, we still did not have our ticket for USS because we failed to have it printed. There was no available printer in the flat where we stayed so we planned to get up early to look for an internet shop. That Sunday morning, we were like wishing and hoping to find an internet cafĂ© nearby and sis also called friends to help us just in case we fail to find one. We need to print our ticket first before we should proceed to USS since we did not want to take chances and be refused entry there for not having anything to present at the gate. So after some kilometers of tiring walk, fortune smiled upon us to have found one internet shop on a Sunday morning when most business establishments were usually closed.

We took a bus going to Vivo City where we again took the Sentosa Express Train. We get off at the Harbourfront station and proceeded to the service booth where my sis presented our printed ticket. We were given a meal stub worth SGD 10 each which we could use in any food kiosks or in restaurants inside the USS, a retail ticket for SGD 5 each that can be used to buy items in USS stores and a ride-all-you can ticket for each of us. We were all ecstatic to be there and the kids just can’t seem to contain their excitement to try the rides. Just like any other tourist, we took pictures of the USS' famous logo and posed in every corner we deemed picture-worthy.

We took a warm up ride at King Julien's beach party-go-round then went inside Shrek and Fiona’s palace in the Far Far Away Kingdom to watch Shrek 4D adventure show. It was such a magical experience, it was not only the story that we loved but the unusual feeling of being like one of the characters in the movie.

After that we moved to Egypt and explored the place, we were all sweat-soaked due to intense heat (but it’s a good thing it didn’t rain that day). We were led to the Revenge of the Mummy ride but we were asked to leave our belongings inside lockers prior to trying out the ride, even our head caps and those inside our pockets were requested to be left inside lockers. My youngest daughter who measured exactly four feet was not allowed in this ride and we were informed that even pregnant, oldies and those who have neck problems or heart ailments. Though puzzled, we just followed what we were told to do so we left our belongings inside lockers which were free for the first few minutes but you would need to pay for an extended storage. My two kids, their aunt and I tried it first. We went through a dimly lighted passageway, with replicas of objects from old Egypt that made us feeling spooky. My kids seemed to like to retreat but since we were all halfway through, they just went along until we reached the actual ride of this attraction. A loud voice shouted "be ready for your torture", and we must really be prepared. That was a totally different roller-coaster ride going up and down on a dark place at an extremely fast speed, that really gave us an adrenaline rush. I just felt how high it was, how fast it was, how it felt like falling off from the seat and how my heart seemed to be suspended in midair.

Now I know why it’s not for the faint of heart and why we need to leave our things behind.
