Yay! It's been 3 years since I last visited Tagaytay and the kids never been there so this is a great time to give them that memorable experience.  I searched for a place where our family could have an overnight stay in Tagaytay and found Destination Hotel through Trip Advisor.  I just find accommodations in Tagaytay as a little pricey since this is one of the favorite destinations among locals when they want to experience that cold weather and escape Manila heat.  This is a better alternative than driving your way to Baguio City when you want that winter feel that will save you some hours of travel time.  Although I read bad reviews on this hotel, I did not have any choice as most hotels in the area were fully booked.  I still proceeded and paid a good deal of money for a good view.

Check-in and Stay:
We arrived at the hotel thirty minutes earlier than the check-in time. The building is a mixed use establishment that included condominium residents thus it is understandable that security was tight. We had a little confusion as there were two front desks for the Prime Residences and for Destination Hotel.  A helpful housekeeping staff showed us the way to the hotel lobby when we got lost.  I was very happy that the front desk staff accommodated us although we were too early for check-in.  Considering our tiring two hour drive,  I cannot help but be very grateful that they provided us an express check-in.  Two thumbs up for that!  However, I could sensed that the two pretty nice ladies at the front desk were a little tensed that they forgot to even show a smile πŸ˜‚...but they were courteous nonetheless and the instructions given were clear. As our accommodation included breakfast, we were asked to select our preferred food from the menu that will be served through room service by Mekong Cuisine.  We were clueless on the kinds of food that were on the menu because of its foreign names as those were cuisines from Thailand, Combodia, Laos, etc.  When I asked of Filipino food, I was informed that it was not being served in that restaurant. So I just chose whatever looked good on the picture. 😁 I requested that we will have breakfast at the restaurant where our family can dine together but I was told that they only have room service accommodation for breakfast.  So there,  mommy thoughts while walking away from the lobby, I was already making up plan B for our breakfast just in case the kids will not like what will be served to us.  Although we had an express check in, it took us a while to proceed to our room as my husband had an issue with the parking.  Although we booked two rooms, we were charged P100.00 parking fee.  We headed to our assigned room at the 19th floor with a good view of the surrounding area.  It was great that we had a very nice lake view from our room that erased all the negative impression we had.

In the first room, there were two double beds, LCD television with cable channel, small in-room safe, telephone, personal refrigerator, microwave oven, water heater and complimentary coffee/tea and water. There was a separate toilet and bath with soap, shampoo, conditioner, tissue but good for only one person. Toothbrush/toothpaste and slippers were not included in the provision.  It was good that there was a convenience store right in front of the building so we just bought the other supplies that we lack.

I find the bed and pillows not too comfortable though as I got some bites (hope it was not bed bugs) and they only provided thin blanket.  A good reason for you not to use the air conditioning unit and just experience the cool breeze of Tagaytay. 😊  If you want your kids to stay out of their gadget,  this is the place for you as they do not have complimentary wi-fi service.  The hotel has swimming pool if you could stand the cold water on a cold day.  We spent the rest of the day lounging in bed and watching TV.

At nighttime,  we headed to Skyranch to try the rides and had dinner.  The next day, we strolled the Rotunda and walk/jog around.  We bought some packed foods from 7/11 on our way back to the hotel just in case the served foods will not pass the mark.  True enough, the packed breakfast served to us failed to satisfy my family's taste buds but they were still grateful and ate what were served. Although the weather was too cold, the kids still tried the pool and spent the rest of the morning there while I killed the time watching TV.
greeted by a foggy morning
Although Destination Hotel is lacking on some amenities and features of a really great hotel, my family managed to still have a great time in Tagaytay and experience a different kind of family weekend getaway.

Check Out:
We asked for a late checkout and we were allowed until 1PM.  At around 12:30 PM, we were all set to go.  I surrendered the key cards to the front desk staff, called on the housekeeping to check our rooms.  After just five minutes, the incidental deposit was returned and we were given clearance to leave. 😊
